Thankful to be back home...

Tue Jul 18, 2006, 3:28 PM
Early this morning my alarm clock started going, and I knew it wasn't going to be a good day, but nonetheless I needed to go somewhere. Mind you I was very tired and decided to sleep in a bit more until say 10 or so. I got woken up by my brother at 11 and we headed out rather quickly, rushing through morning rituals. Things were going great from then on. Solid tunes, open highways and all that metaphorical happiness that usually ends up in old songs of traveling with your buddies to do things worth writing home about. We were making good time on the 417, getting to highway 17 to Arnprior and Pembroke. We got lost slightly at Pembroke because we were supposed to hit the 41 south, not north. But we realized this mistake and gassed up, backtracking back to the 17 with relative ease. Things were still going good then.

We needed to get to the camping grounds that my parents are busily setting up for business, which is, unfortunately far from Ottawa (about 2.5 to 3h drive). But the small roads were made exciting by going breakneck speeds and accelerating through the turns. No, nothing big happened here. My brother was driving and we were having lots of fun. Well... as much fun as could be had, going 120 around bends, dips and dives on turns designated for 60. But we did get to where we were supposed to go but we couldn't find the place. It was supposed to be a small offshoot road leading up to where they were. But we couldn't find it. We traveled untill the end of that small-town road and found no sign of familiarity or said offshoot road. To my brother's dismay, he had to be at work around 5 and it was nearing 3 by the time we decided to give up. So we headed back home.

Now we made some excellent time down those roads again, untill we hit the highway 17 again. We were slowed down by the regular trafic and all was good. Slightly on edge. We hit ottawa near 5 and allready we were late. Some errant drivers on the 417 almost sideswiped us, to which we both gave them the finger. First documented case of road rage on my part (also because we were in the car for nearly 4 hours). By the time we neared Blair, a red Sunfire slammed on the breaks. I uttered a curse as my brother swerved to dodge that one only to rear end rather solidly a white dodge something or other. We hit it rather hard...

Now don't get me wrong, I'm fine and everything, just a bit shaken up. I was pissed, but not as pissed as my brother. I mean... I'm STILL shaking and it's been nearly 2 hours ago this happened. I dunno, maybe it's just the realisation that things could have gone much much worse for us then. I'm just glad that we're both ok. The car looks like it could be written off. The front end is smushed as it had wedged underneath the dodge. *shakes his head* I hate this feeling of frailty. I hate feeling as if my life can be snuffed out as quickly as that. I probably need some time with people to get my mind off things and enjoy myself. Anyway, I think I'm just going to end with that. I might have more later. Take care.

Ouch, that sucks. I'm glad you didn't get hurt or anything though.
At least you got to enjoy most of the drive though. I wish I could just go for a drive like that XD
*gas price hating* *needs drivers license* =/
